New Main Building

The ordination hall and the sangha residence being constructed at Mingalarama monastery is nearing completion, and we would like to share with all our dhamma friends the joyous news that the opening ceremony and consecration ceremony for the ordination hall will be held over the coming Burmese New Year. The final stage of the construction will comprise the insulation of the basement and paving the entrance driveway. All those who have donated towards the construction of the ordination hall and the sangha residence will be able to perform a libation for their donations.

After the Sayadaws have taken up residence in the new Residence Hall, finishing touches will be made to the first floor of the hall. The basement will be finished in the near future to use by the yogis during the summer meditation retreats and will also be continued to be used as the Buddhist library. We welcome donations from our dhamma friends for the installation of ceilings, walls, plumbing, electricity, and carpets.

Abbots from monasteries from across the Washington metropolitan area will be invited to the opening ceremony and offerings will be made to the sangha. There will be a communal offering of lunch to the sangha and lunch will also be served to all donors, guests, and dhamma friends.

Please feel free to make any offering of your choice towards the communal lunch offering for the sangha as well as to the communal offering of provisions to the sangha. Also, please feel free to contribute any food, drink or dessert of your choice to the communal lunch served to all dhamma friends. Please contact the Mingalarama sayadaws at (301) 439-4035 and U Thoung Kyi at 240-507-6646 to inform them of your contribution.

Traditional songs and dances will be performed by children in the local community on this joyous occasion. If you would like to participate in the entertainment program please contact Ko Yin Htwe at 301-520-4160 and Ma Myat Yin Chaw at 240-671-7998.
